The Herbs
In Flor•Essence
This beneficial
herbal tea blend contains burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm, watercress,
Turkish rhubarb root, kelp, blessed thistle and red clover. The herbs used
in Flor•Essence contain no pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides, and
they are not irradiated. They have been carefully selected and combined
in unique proportions for maximum effectiveness.
Burdock
(Arctium lappa)
Certified organic
burdock root of the highest quality is used. Active ingredients include
45% inulin, essential oils, vitamins and a broad array of minerals. The
Chinese consider burdock to be strengthening and nutritive, making it an
excellent tonic. It is traditionally used to cleanse and detoxify.
Sheep
Sorrel (Rumex acetosella)
A perennial, sheep
sorrel is commonly found in meadows and grows up to three feet high, with
small reddish flowers. It is the leaves and seeds of this herb that contain
the active ingredients. It is a good source of vitamin C, and has a long
history of traditional use. Flora is currently contracting local farmers
in the Lynden area to grow organic sheep sorrel.
Slippery
Elm (Ulmus rubra)
This stately tree
grows to 60 feet and is indigenous to North America. Folk medicine ascribes
many traditional uses to slippery elm bark, which contains large amounts
of tannins, mucilages and bitter compounds.
Turkish
Rhubarb (Rheum palmatum)
The thick, branching
root of this large, leafy perennial is harvested in its fourth year of
growth. Chinese physicians have employed it since antiquity, both internally
and externally. The root is rich in iron.
Watercress
(Nasturt officinale)
An aromatic, edible
wild plant, this superior "food" is a rich source of chlorophyll, vitamins
A, C and K, and many minerals, including iron and iodine. Used since classical
times as a detoxicant and restorative.
Kelp
(Laminaria digitata)
Used traditionally
for the nutritive benefits of its abundant minerals, kelp is a great source
of iodine, which helps regulate energy levels. The alginates found in kelp
have many beneficial effects, one of which is to inhibit the absorption
of heavy metals.
Blessed
Thistle (Carduus benedictus)
As the name implies,
this healing herb has been a blessing to humanity for centuries, having
many traditional applications. Certified organic sources are used whenever
possible.
Red Clover
(Trifolium pratense)
Only certified
organic red clover leaves and flowers are used in Flor•Essence. This perennial
herb grows up to two feet tall and, although originally from Europe, it
grows "like a weed" in North America. |
From native tradition
to the realm of modern herbal therapy, few natural health formulas can
share such a worthy lineage. In 1922, Canadian nurse René Caisse
received a powerful cleansing tea used by the Ojibway Indians. Little did
she realize how it would profoundly affect her and thousands of patients.
René researched
and refined the herbal formula in her clinic over many years. It was further
developed during her partnership and co-ownership with the eminent Dr.
Charles Brusch, M.D. at his Massachusetts clinic. The late Dr. Brusch,
formerly personal physician to President John F. Kennedy, was interviewed
a number of times by Elaine Alexander, the longtime producer and broadcaster
of a health-oriented radio show. He greatly admired her long research which
resulted in knowledgeable interviews. They established a close friendship,
and in 1988 Dr. Brusch legally passed the rights to this enhanced herbal
formula, now called Flor•Essence, over to Elaine.
Flor•Essence contains
eight quality tested herbs and is formulated to the precise directions
inherited from Dr. Brusch.
